We've just added a new type of news in Houston: active fire/police incidents.

This includes traffic accidents, fires, EMS (emergency medical services) events and a bunch more, all updated every 10 minutes. (Here's an example Houston block page so you can see how the information is displayed.) For our Houston users, this is a great way to find out why you're hearing sirens.
