Chicago city council candidates are using EveryBlock to connect with voters in their wards and start discussions about important community issues.
In October, we introduced the EveryBlock aldermanic candidate badge to identify users running for Chicago city council. We also urged neighbors to post their questions and concerns on the site to spur further conversation. Our goal was for candidates and residents to use EveryBlock as a platform for discussion as opposed to simply a channel to broadcast messages.
Across the city, active residents and candidates have seized this opportunity. They are sharing information with each other, posting announcements about upcoming candidate forums, soliciting questions and talking about how to make their communities better.
One of the most rewarding results of this effort has been the significant amount of discussion among residents living in wards that are frequently overlooked by the mainstream media such as the 24th, 20th and 8th ward.
The aldermanic discussions on EveryBlock are a great example of how our site can bring neighbors together and lead to real-world action. We look forward to even more neighborhood conversations in Chicago and other EveryBlock cities in the weeks and months to come.
