Make some radio with the Third Coast ShortDocs ChallengeFeb152012
We’re excited to announce our partnership with the 2012 ShortDocs Challenge, a project by the Third Coast International Audio Festival. The competition encourages radio fans of all stripes and experience to get behind the mic and make their own short piece of radio. What makes it a challenge is that each piece must follow a few rules. That’s where EveryBlock comes in — we teamed up with Third Coast to devise this year’s rules. They are:
- Each piece must include at least two of your neighbors.
- Each piece must have a color in the title.
- Each piece must contain three consecutive seconds of narrative silence.
- Each piece must be (as always) two to three minutes long.
That’s it. The rest is up to you. Even what “your neighbors” means is up to you. You have until April 30 to create and submit your piece (which you can do on this SoundCloud page). Four winners — as picked by the Third Coasters and us — get a trip to the Third Coast conference in October, a SoundCloud Pro Plus account and the pride in hearing their work on national radio. We’ll also post some of our favorites here. For the full details and rules, visit Third Coast’s ShortDocs site.
You don’t have to live in an EveryBlock city to participate. But if you do, and you want to solicit ideas or participation in your piece, we encourage you to post a message about it.
Every day on EveryBlock we read fascinating stories about neighborhoods and the people within. Many of them are the perfect material for radio. We hope you take this chance to make a ShortDoc and turn the stories into sound.
