Neighbors Use EveryBlock to Grow a Community Group

Jun122012

One of the most common ways neighbors are using EveryBlock is to share their community meetings and events on our neighborhood calendar.

When a group of concerned residents in Harlem decided it was time to start a new organization to bring together active residents from all over the neighborhood, Morningside Park Neighbor posted information about the proposed group’s first meeting to rally EveryBlock users together online to meet offline to voice their concerns.

Two days later, a leader from North Stars joined EveryBlock to share a recap of their first meeting. North Stars began receiving positive feedback from neighbors on EveryBlock, so they continued to post their meetings to our calendar. They also reached out to their fellow Harlem EveryBlock neighbors when they needed volunteers to clean up a neighborhood park and to sign a petition for local playground repairs.

We’re really excited to see the encouragement this new neighborhood association has received both on EveryBlock and offline in Harlem.

So do you want to start a new group of engaged and concerned residents in your neighborhood? Follow North Stars’ lead by starting a conversation with your neighbors on EveryBlock. Try posting a message with your thoughts on what a new group can do in your neighborhood (ie. bring parents together to discuss playground safety or plan cleanup parties at a community garden). Once you’ve rallied a few neighbors together on EveryBlock, plan your first meeting and post it to our calendar to invite more neighbors to join in.

Best of luck to our Harlem neighbors at North Stars and to any new groups growing on EveryBlock!
