Seattle: Love your block? Celebrate it!Jul22012
Each year on the first Tuesday of August Seattleites take to their streets and get to know their neighbors at Seattle Night Out block parties. These are very social events that don’t put the emphasis on crime prevention, though that’s the underlying purpose. When you know your neighbors, crime goes down, and your block becomes a better place.
EveryBlock is all about helping you become a better neighbor, and we want to share inspiration from neighbors who live on some of the great blocks in Seattle. Today we’ve launched the “I Love My Block” contest to encourage EveryBlock users to sing their neighbors’ praises.
Through July 24, we’ll collect stories about Seattle’s superlative blocks, then we’ll select winners based on these rules.
Grand prize: Skillet Street Food will send its signature Airstream to the winning block’s Seattle Night Out party on August 7 and provide a “small bites” menu (3 items per person) for up to 100 party guests.
Three second prize winners: The EveryBlock ice cream truck will visit their Seattle Night Out block parties. The truck will provide frozen treats for up to 100 party guests at each party.
Random drawing: We’ll choose 5 entrants at random to receive the soon-to-be-released “The Skillet Cookbook: A Street Food Manifesto,” so neighbors can cook up their own block party at any time.
Have you been known to sigh, “I love my block”? Share your stories, and you could make this year’s Seattle Night Out block party truly memorable. Get started here.
